Learning and Evaluation

Through learning we can continually strengthen what we do, and empower everyone in the team.

So often when we evaluate our services we do it for external stakeholders.

But embedding learning into our organisations, and evaluating what we do so we can create deeper understanding of what we do is powerful.

How I work

  • Identify what is to be evaluated and why
  • Co-design the approach
  • Work as a learning partner, embedding the evaluation process throughout the project

Although I prefer to be involved from the start of a project or process, as this maximises the benefit for everyone involved, I can also complete retrospective evaluations.

I am a member of the UK Evaluation Society and continually work to develop my practice and competency as an evaluator.

Recent evaluations

My recent evaluations include:

  • Evaluating the effectiveness and impact of Peterborough’s first Poverty Truth Commission.
  • Evaluating how the Red Hen Project has progressed in delivering it Theory of Change, and what has been learned.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness and impact of a series of CVS Forums hosted by Peterborough CVS.

Testimonials

“Thank you, that was the best evaluation session I’ve ever been part of. Usually they are so dry. Thank you for listening.” Bec, Family Worker

“Ali has been a valued part of the project team, providing capacity, skill and process that enabled us to continually learn and improve, and understand the value of the work being completed.

Her background and deep understanding of the Voluntary and Community Sector and broader systems enabled her to build trust with members and participants, which was essential to enabling learning to happen.

Her skill at sensitively facilitating difficult conversations about what was and wasn’t working enabled tensions to be surfaced, and addressed.

Her ability to piece together information, and identify connections has helped to surface key insights that are important in making decisions about next steps for PCVS, and the sector in Peterborough.” Kirsteen, CEO, PCVS

“The evaluation process identified important issues for the sector in the city I hadn’t seen fully articulated before, despite them being an issue for a long time. It takes a level of knowledge and wisdom to identify and understand what is really happening.” Sharon, CEO, Poverty Charity
